After installing software, where are the icons?

Hello everyone.

LOVE LINUX!

I am using Ubuntu 5.04 with Gnome 2.10 and after installing some software.

apt-get install k3b, it downloads and installs fine.
Then I issue the command
killall gnome-panel

The icon of the software does not show up.
If I type k3b in the shell it works. This also happens with gtoaster.

On some of the installed software the icons have appeared like realplayer, Mplayer, Skype etc but gtoaster and k3b there are no icons.

Is there a way of getting the program icons onto a panel.

Kind regards

I'm on Debian with GNOME 2.8, but it will hopefully work the same for 2.10.

If you want to add an icon to the desktop, right click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher". In the field "Command" enter k3b or whatever you'd type on the command line.

If you want to add an icon to a panel, right click on the panel (where there isn't an icon) and select "Add to Panel". Scroll down the list in the window that comes up and select "Custom Application Launcher". This will be exactly the same as creating a launcher on the desktop.

I hope this was helpful!

In Debian there is an 'update-menus' command which should be executed by root.
