After dist-upgrade, X no longer starts.

I recently did an apt-get dist-upgrade which affected a bunch of X-related packages. The next time I booted, I had no GUI.

Quote:

giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

Any idea why I can't connect to the X server?

Debian Etch?
They just added X.org 7(the modular version).
Just as with other distros before, this caused many problems.
Examples: some locations are now different, glx(and dev -dev) had to be removed(and still not replaced), xserver-xorg isn't installed after an upgrade anymore, ...

So unless you give some more info (is it indeed Debian Etch, are you using nvidia or an other 3D card, some logs, ...) I can't really help you.
