I recently switched from redhat 8.0 and purchased the SUSE 9.0 Pro distro, the bad news being that it does not apparently include the Postfix SMTP and LDAP servers. I am reluctant to pay even more money for a distro that does contain Postfix and LDAP, so I'd like to install the above apps myself.

I have the following uncertainties (I'm a java guy not a linux sysadmin):
1. I presume that if I go the rpm route, I'll need a suse rpm. Is this correct?
2. If I dont go the suse.rpm route, where could I find the source and howtos to get this job done?

I'm positive that SuSE include LDAP (openldap) and postfix that supports LDAP. Run "YaST2" (SuSE "control center") as root. You should be able to search for ldap and postfix.
