Adding joysticks to XF86Config? Are you willing to use them as a mouse? Because, if you want to use them as... well... joysticks, all you gotta do is to load the proper modules

modprobe joydev

for example . You not even need install drivers. Joystick support have been into the kernel for ages

Is it an USB pad? Because all USB pads that I have works already calibrated by simply loading the module as I described above.(Mame works fine too). I could never ever get a joypad to work with Linux using the standard joystick port though... Anyway, I love USB devices .

And it's possible to use the joystick as a mouse too . I will try to build a media box for me and the only device plugged will be the joypad . Very cool function

My joystick works fine through the SB live I have never could get the gameport on the MB to work though. Don't mean to hijack the thread so do you have any details on the mouse via joystick posted on the web somewhere or is it just using it as a USB device instead of (along with) the mouse?

It's easy. With Slackware, all you have to do is, as root, to run "mouseconfig". There you will find an option called "js", that allows you to use the joystick as a mouse. There might be similar tools for every distributions, I guess

Cheers!

I don't have mame installed in this machine anymore. But I found this for you:

http://freshrpms.net/docs/xmame/

There it stands:

Quote:
USB joystick/joypad : Choose the "new i386 linux 1.x.x driver" (leave /dev/js, as it's the prefix to which 0, 1 etc. will be appended) and don't forget to check that the "joydev" module is loaded.
It's basically what I did, only loaded the correct modules

mmmmmm, when I had xmame installed, you could choose the drivers through GXmame, by simply right clicking in a game name, then preferences, then joystick... I have no idea how to do it in pure command line though . You might want to give GXmame a shot, while I try to install the front-end from your thread, since it's the best front-end I have ever seem . Thanks for the link

I'd like to know how to set up a joystick as a pointing device for X. I have a gameport gamepad/joystick device (Seitek Megapad XVI, branded Radioshack) and I wouldn't mind freeing up my mouse. Sure, slack has mouseconfig; I'm on woody.

That gamepad wasn't working properly, so i took it apart. Anyone with the same model please email me with a photo of it with the back removed. I need to know how to reconnect the wires.

I'm using mandrake linux 10 and trying to get my joystick to work. I have a 15 pin port its on so I tried some of the stuff the previous posters posted above and I dont think it worked. I tried modprobe joydev. It started then terminated so I dont know what happened.

I'm trying to get it working in transgaming even though tech support told me it wont work in their game I just want to get the joystick configured anyway.

I am also trying to get an old-style (15-Pin?) Joystick working in Mandrake 10. Any luck?
