I've set up a shared address book using OpenLDAP. MS Outlook and Thunderbird can connect to it, and get entries from it. However, I can't seem to find how to add new entries to the directory from either client.

I've configured both to bind with a dn that has full write permissions in slapd.conf, and I've verified this works through phpldapadmin. Outlook refuses to add entries to the LDAP directory, and Thunderbird doesn't even let me select it when creating a new card. Was I wrong in assuming it would be possible to add contacts using an e-mail client? If it should be possible, where should I look for my error? Any help is appreciated.

ps. The help files for both MS Outlook and Thunderbird seem to neither confirm nor deny the possibility of writing to an LDAP address book.

I think I've answered my own question after some more googling... it seems that most e-mail clients actually do not include support for writing contact information to an LDAP directory. In fact, the only client I've found that DOES offer this functionality is Evolution. Thunderbird, KMail and MS Outlook are all lacking in this respect. And here I was thinking it would probably be an OpenLDAP configuration issue.
