Adding 2.6 kernel for Slackware
I'm using Slack 10.2 with the 2.4 default kernel.
I'd like to use the 2.6 kernel with the pre-selected Slackware options.
I need all modules and compiled sources available.
I think I know how to do it but would like to know if I'm on the right track.
The CD includes the 2.6 kernel (bzImage, System.map, and config). But to use it, I need to compile and install the modules. Here's what I'm thinking about doing:
1. Download the pristine kernel that's the same version as the slackware 2.6 kernel.
2. Use the config file from the Slackware CD to configure the new sources.
3. Do
# make modules && make modules_install
4. Place the 2.6 Slackware kernel files (bzImage and System.map) in the /boot directory.
5. Add a lilo entry for the new kernel, and reinstall lilo (/sbin/lilo).
6. Reboot the system.
Is this the right sequence of steps, or am I missing anything.
Also, is there a way to use the slackware config file for the newest version of the linux kernel?
Thanks for the help.
