acrobat reader text search and select problem

Hi all,

I encountered a problem with Acrobat reader 5.08 under Redhat 9.0. The text search and the text select text tool are not working. There are two messages one of which says

"insuffcient data for an image"

the other says

"Attempt to release an unlocked object".

I guess that this indicates that the reader does not reckognize the font, however, text search and select work fine for the same documents using acroread (5.05) and Redhat 7.2.
Does anyone know what the actual problem is? Is it a font missing in the 9.0 distribution or some environment variable that is different? I have set the language for the reader to C already (otherwise the reader crashes).

The documents are created with latex (\usepackage{times}) and ps2pdf.

Thanks to whoever could shed light on this.

AO
