accidently deleted my ~/.Xauthority

Hi

I accidently deleted my ~/.Xauthority. I was wondering how to generate a new on for my user.

Having a current backup allows me to try fun stuff like that.

So, I deleted the ~/.Xauthority and nothing happened that I noticed.
Logged out and back in and the file re-appeared.

HI

Here is the deal. I run startx, and it prints this several times;

xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/joe/.Xauthority

then eventually it starts x, and then when i exit x it hangs unless i hit control c. And it does not generate a new .Xauthority. I was wondering how I can create a new one to get everything working.

On my FC4 box, it just re-appeared on logging back in.
Maybe, creating a new user, login and make sure it works, then copy that file over to the original user.

I Tried that it didn't work, and also I did set the owner and group on it. All the permissions where correct.
