Question Access internal web server by name

Greetings everyone!

So. I have a dumb question.

I just did a clean install of of Fedora Core 2, moving from RH9.
SO.
I'm pretty much just using this server for Development, testing and whatnot.
On RH9 I had set up Apache, MySQL, vsftpd and someother services.
These worked fine.
Now. After the fresh install of FC2 I've been in the process of setting these services up again. vsftpd working and sql.
I go apache working as well, but this is were my question comes in.
On RH9 I had it set up so that I could access the web server by name from anyother computer on my network. Like this: http://mycomputer/
Where mycomputer is the computer name (obviously).

I have Apache set up and it's working fine, however I can only access it from it's IP addy. This is all well and good, but I'd much rather access it by name.
For the life of me, I can't remember how I set it up on RH9 so that i could do this.
Does anyone have any advice on what I need to do?
Do I need to turn on the DNS?
Is there a way to make an internal domain that I can access it from?
I already edited hosts but that wasn't it....
Now I'm kinda at a loss.
I googled my brains out trying to find how... but found nothing specific.
Anyway. Thanks for the help!

yes you will need bind to hold your DNS record from that box. now i dont know if it needs to run from that box, but your DNS server needs to be updated to point to that location for what you want to work.

the bigger guru's around here can give you far more info then that.

Ah... I see....
I do have a DNS server running on my network (however not from my linux box).
So... I either have to setup the DNS on this machine or on the other to recognize the linux machine's name. That makes sence.
But that brings up another question..... Don't I need to have a fully qualified Domain name for use with DNS? That is something I'm avoiding.... I do have a domain.... but I'm really only interested in accessing this machine from within the local network.
Can I setup the name server to point at IP's with out a full name?? (how would that work?)

Thanks for your help Lleb_KCir....

Hopefully others will join in my cry for help. ^_^
