several people seem to have trouble accessing a samba share (security=user) from XP. I´m supporting sambafilesservers with different samba-versions, and it happens always the same:
1. Any older Windows-version from Win98 to Win2K works fine.
2. When I try to mount a samba share from xp, on several xp stations with different patches and servicepacks I have to wait a long time, about 10 minutes, and then suddenly the share appears. I found out that XP first tries a connect to port 80 to the fileserver. Running apache on the file server (oh dear), the logfile tolds us that XP seems to use WEBDAV (www.webdav.org
). After a timeout (10min), XP uses smb and mounts the share like W2K and NT. Does anybody know how to tell XP to use smb at once? I searched several newsgroups and, excuse me, the ms-knowledge base, but any registry settings I tried didn´t work.
Thanks a lot,
