ABRT pops up alert dialogs with no data when CUPS fails to print

I recently upgraded a desktop from Fedora 14 (which was working well even though old) to Fedora 21. We have a networked Brother MFC7360N printer, for which Brother provide printer drivers and installation instructions. These drivers work on my Fedora 21 laptop and used to work on the Fedora 14 desktop.

Now when I attempt to print anything from the desktop, CUPS silently fails and ABRT pops up an alert containing no data - just the usual headings and labels.

I don't know if I have two problems - CUPS and ABRT - or one problem causing both phenomena. Where do I start to track these issues down?

Any help would be gratefully received.

I'm by no means a CUPS expert, but here goes...

Try opening a browser and going to "localhost:631" to access the CUPS web frontend. At the top, click "Printers" then select the printer that's having the issue. See if anything looks incorrect there. One setting that I find sometimes can be an issue is under "Maintenance" there is a "Resume Printer" option. If you have that option, the printer is paused and CUPS won't actually send anything to print until you resume it.

Thanks for the suggestion Maples. I will look at that and slap my head if it is the problem. I have an uneasy feeling it is not, because attempts to print are accompanied by an ABRT pop-up containing no data, but I will try anything! I'll let you know how I get on.
