Abiword with just GTK and not Gnome libraries -- Gentoo question

When I installed abiword in Debian, I realized that there were two packages of abiword available. One which is compiled with just the GTK libraries and not Gnome and the other which is compiled with Gnome depends.

Now I want to use abiword in KDE so I don't want to compile with Gnome dependencies, just the GTK libraries. Only this works properly in KDE. The Gnome build of abiword does not work properly with KDE (some minor GUI issues can be found when running abiword for Gnome with KDE).

Is it possible to build abiword using

Code:
USE="-gnome gtk" emerge abiword
and would it still work?

I'm using Gentoo. Not manually compiling but using emerge.

Is this the same thing as the USE flags?

I think the USE flags are meant for this purpose.

It says that /configure can be only done for simple e-builds where the commands involved are only
Code:
/configure
make
make install
For a big package like Abiword, I doubt whether I can manually run the compile.

I would try compiling it with the temp USE flags you listed and see what happens. Worst case you can always do a
code:
#emerge --unmerge
if it doesn't work. I suspect it will work though.

Yes. Abiword with temporary use flag -gnome works fine. It just removes some extra libraries which are installed with Gnome and decreases the download size.

Just wanted to reply to this thread to provide this information.
