AbiWord install problems

I have tried to install Abi Word on a slackware computer, but the installation tells me that it misses "GConf Configuration Framework" and that I must install a package called gconf2.tgz. I have done this, but I still get the same message when I try to install. Does someone now how to solve this?

Unfortunately some Linux distributions do not follow the standard model for placing files in the system directories. I believe that Slackware is one of those.

You are ALWAYS better off if you search the package repository for your distribution for applications that you want to install. Then use the package manager that came with your distribution to install those packages. I am guessing that you downloaded the software kit for Abiword from the Abiword home page or something similar.

The good news, if I recall correctly, is that the package repository for Slackware is pretty big. Also, if you search the WWW you will find other places that specialize in making packages for Slackware from the original application kit.
