Angry AbiWord 2.0.6 isn't spell-checking...

Hello, all. I just installed AbiWord 2.0.6 from custom Mandrake 9.2 RPMs (replacing the 2.0.0 that came on my distro discs) and have discovered that there's no spell-checking going on. The Auto spell-check is enabled (but not working), and the manual Spell Check option is greyed out. I don't get any errors; I just don't get any spell-checking. I installed everything that the dependencies called for (looks like Enchant has been implemented as the spell-checking frontend since version 2.0.0), and everything else in AbiWord appears to work normally.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks very much in advance.

[kinda ironic that I mistyped 'isn't' in the title of a post about spell-checking, isn't it?]

I've not installed it from .rpm, but when I compiled it from source I had to install enchant-1.1.3, aspell-0.50.5 and a dictionary for aspell-en-0.51-0. At first I installed the dictionary labeled "uk" and I couldn't figure out why the spell checker wasn't working. It turned out that "uk" means Ukraine. Doh! Well I didn't know...
