I did not look exhaustively into this, but I got marginally-OK results from:
a2ps -1 --landscape --lines-per-page=80 --chars-per-line=200
although the cpl could have been slightly smaller for this run.
You may have noticed that there is a relationship between the lpp and the cpl: if the cpl is about right (say 130), then the lpp are too few. Using portrait
as opposed to landscape
is way too small -- for my eyes as well as for my oldish laser printer.
You may need to do some trial and error, although perhaps someone may stop by with some words of wisdom.
I assume that, like me, you have a kind of template file set up, 130 X 80, on which to test your experiments.
