A/V speed discrepancy in mPlayer

i've installed mplayer following the ubuntu FAQ, and everything works fine, i have the gui, and full screen, and subtitles, and of course sound. except that the sound is faster than the video stream. i tried fiddling with the command line parameters, and finding solution to this problem on this forum, but nothing so far. does anyone knows the solution to this problem, i'd be very grateful?

[sorry if this problem was addressed before, i can't find it].

just figured something out, the problem appears only in fullscreen or when i stretch the window a bit.

mplayer has its own FAQ, so that would be a good place to look next.

There are a lot of things in mplayer you can do only when compiling, so compiling from source may give better results than using a package. But be warned it's a big job. It took me five tries to get it "perfect", and each build attempt took 41 minutes to complete.

You can try to include vf=scale=-1:-1,yuy2 while running mplayer. This should use the video card acceleration instead of the software based color space. mplayer just has poor A/V sync. I suggest Video Lan Client or XINE.

Compiling mplayer is not a big job.
