A good AVI Joiner or Splicer for Linux Needed
 

Hi,
I am doing a project on creating Beowulf Cluster, though the cluster is ready, I am developing an application to test and demonstrate the capability of the Cluster.
I am doing an Movie encoding application, for this I require a AVI joiner or Splicer, I got a "AVISPLICER" from sourceforge.net, though it works and joins various AVI files to produce a single output AVI file, when I run the final output on MPlayer, I get a "Frame too small & Format Error" error. I am not able to rectify the error though I have the code for the "AVISPLICER". So I am thinking of trying another similiar tool.
Can anyone suggest a similiar but working tool. I tried searching for this using AltaVista, Google, SourceForge, FreshMeat, FreshRPMs,DogPile etc. I am getting apps. that are meant for Windows Platform only. So can anyone suggest a similiar tool for Linux?

I would just install xine and make a playlist with the avi files in order that you wish to view them.

No splicer needed.

Try "avidemux" or "lives". I have used Avidemux with decent results. Though never tried joining two streams together.
Sourceforge has options to limit searches to Linux. It should be a good starting point to start for similar applications only for linux.

You need transcode: besides the well-known transcode media encoding utility, the package also has a number of tools to manipulate avi files, including avimerge and avisplit. Transcode also has a wiki page.

If you want to join several avi files together, you need avimerge. From the man page:

avimerge merges several AVI-files into one. Can also be used to fix an
index of a broken file and can also replace audio tracks or muxes new
ones. It can read raw AC3 and MP3 files for multplexing.

Funnily enough mplayer (mencoder) will split and join AVIs. Joining is conditional on them being the same size, bitrate, etc.
