A decent audio player with a "music library" feature. does it exist for linux?
Ok, I'm giving up trying to find this on my own.
I need to find a good audioplayer capable of playing mp3 files. but MOST importantly - it needs to have a well developed "music library" feature. What I'm looking for is a sort of winamp or itunes for linux. A way to easily construct new playlists and have control of many files in many directories. VLC doesn't really work for me, in any case it doesn't have those features. xmms is just a poor poor excuse for a player but is the one that works best for me at present. Mplayer, It sure can play DVD and such but handle music well, oh no! There must be more like me out there that just want to have a userfriendly yet powerful audioplaying program. Prefferable one that looks good as well :) Thankful for any help, |

Look here: http://www.real.com/linux. I guess this will be suitable for you.

And KDE for Amarok i believe (Amarok is the best music player, regardless of platofrm ;) )
Has a quick and easy way to edit ID3 tags, can make playlists, it'll contact the DB to get song info etc. etc. |
There's also mpd, which is a music server program that has many frontends from minimalist command line tools, to web front ends and gui clients.

I kinda like Juk

I shared your frustration for a while and ended up with two different programs - xmms and madman (madman.sf.net) which integrates well with xmms; madman was the only 'library' that would work for me as well as the winamp one did.

Personally, I recommend amaroK. I think it's the best music player for Linux right now. It works kind of like iTunes. |

...Not. :) |
Amorok is my friend. It seems to have some nice features including internet radio stations. :)

Thanks for the many replies guys! I'm sure this thread will help more people than just me. I'll get on trying Amorok and the other right away.

OK It seems like I got amaroK to work. In order to get it to play mp3 files an additional "engine" had to be downloaded. Thanks again for the help!
