64 bit software
Currently running Ubuntu 14 ,32 bit on a dual 32/64 bit machine.
Contemplating moving to Ubuntu 14/64 bit . Question - How much Ubuntu is 64 comparable? |
I'm really sorry, but I don't understand your question. You can safely install 64bit version, you will see no differences.
|
You mean version 14.04. There are not many differences. All binaries are bit larger and for running some programs not prepared for 64 bit (for example steam or some windows applications through wine) you need additional 32 bit libraries.

Thank you
64 bit it wwillbe |
a little warning here, i just had a case where it did matter.
old amilo laptop, 64bit capable - i had to use ndiswrapper to get my wlan working, and it only works on 32bit. |
There's no real difference between 32-bit and 64-bit except available software, but those cases are few.
64-bit only has the advantage of using more than 4GB of system RAM, as well as taking full advantage of hardware resources that use 64-bit pathways. Otherwise, the gains are few. If you can go 64-bit, then by all means do so. However, as far as speed, there is no gain. The only thing you gain is more memory addressing space, better resource handling in a few cases, and software architectural optimizations. |
Thank you both.
Its all clear now. |
