5-way multiboot, Problems with Suse10

Hello. I am new to linux - never touched it until December 2005. Some very good fellas over at AMDZone helped me to get a quad-boot going on one hard-drive using XP, 2K3, Fedora, and Suse. 2 months later I am trying to get a 5-way multiboot going on a new machine for various networking and security labs.

I am close to having the 5-way multiboot but I have some issues with Suse this time. I have it set up like this:

sda1 fat32 (small shared area)
sda2 /boot
sda5 XP Pro
sda6 2K3 Server
sda7 /home (shared) (I just use different account names to avoid confusion)
sda8 / (for RHEL4)
sda9 / (for Suse10)
sda10 / (for Fedora4)
sda11/ swap

I installed Suse last because when I did the quad-boot before, entering the grub info into Suse's YAST was the easiest.

I've got everything setup nice using Suse-based loader...I can go into any of the other 4 operating systems from the Suse boot menu. However, I cannot go into Suse! I can select Suse, and it goes through the normal load-up like the rest do, but if I enter login credentials at the graphical login terminal it starts to go into it and then locks up...showing only a 1 inch by 4 inch banner of messed-up grahics. If I click on the "session" link at the grahical login screen...it also locks it up. I can click the reboot link and then select reboot with no problems. I can log into a virtual console by hitting cntrl-alt-f1, but I am limited on what I can do because I'm still new to this. While snooping around as root I opened the /etc/grub.conf file with VI and it read:

root(hd0,10)
install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/stage1 (hd0,10) /grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,1) /grub/menu.lst
quit

I normally use gedit in the x-window environment and I didn't even know how to properly exit out of VI, let alone save it after editing....so I had to just 3finger salute the badboy.

I even reinstalled the whole thing using less packages and changing the default vga mode in the grubloader options to a lower resolution, but after all that I still get the exact same symptoms...I can go into the other 4 OS's but not into Suse.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem??

Thanks in advance!

That's not a problem, that's a blessing. Sorry, (bad) attempt at levity.

Don't do that ...
Snoop around with "less" - read-only, and has pagination.
If you need update, try "nano" - all the help you need is on the bottom of the screen. Else if you have to use "vi" there are plenty of howto's on the web - go get the command set in advance of needing them.
The file you were looking for was probably /boot/grub/grub.conf (or maybe menu.lst).

Your issue is with X, not FB and the like in the console.
Suse should have an X11 config tool (sorry I don't use Suse), or maybe you could look at the xorg.conf files on the other systems for inspiration. Presuming xorg of course - have a look in /etc/X11/.

I will take a look at through /etc/x11 directories and see if I can see any big differences.

Well, I took my look...but as I said, I'm very new to linux. I know how to use ls and cat and other various tools to traverse files and directories but as far as this problem goes, I dont even know what I'm looking for. I can list the files with ls, but then I just see files and subdirectories that I know nothing about. Is there something specific I should be looking for? Does Suse10 use a different implementation or version of x-window than RHEL4 and fedora4?
