2 problems with Quake 3

1 Sound, I can get Quake 3 to initialise sound if I type in the commands artsdsp -m quake3, but I'd rather not do that. But if I just start Quake 3 normally, I can't get any sound.

2 I can't change resolutions, quake 3 just crashes. I don't like looking at 640x480 resolution for my games.

I have one of the Release Candidates for Slackware 9.0, and I have installed NVIDIA's linux drivers for my GeForce 4 Ti4400 card. And I have my Creative Sound Blaster card working under linux.

Actually I fixed my resolution problems, but forgot to post that I did.

Now I just got to figure out how to fix the sound.

Anyone? The only way to have Quake 3 to initialise sound is through the command artsdsp -m quake as I said before, anyone know an answer?

EDIT: AHA Fixed it! For some reason, Quake 3 couldn't access /dev/dsp, so I chmod 777 /dev/dsp and that has fixed it.
