2 problem so far with kernel 2.6.1

after i get into kernel 2.6.1
1. i 'startx' , and i'm using blackbox.. but my mouse keep moving around without control and i dunno why

2. i can't get my network working, but i did compiled with my 3Com 3x590 driver in the kernel, and i check dmesg, it did load into the kernel, but how come no network for me ? (i use dhcp to get ip and stuff , because i'm on school campus)

so far these 2 problems.. i'm sure there's more

feel disappointed at 2.6.1

Howto fix networking issue under 2.6

Hi

Networking also didn't work once I'd installed 2.6.1. I googled and found this link:

http://armin.emx.at/kernel_2.6/kernel_2.6_faq.html

The solution to use the following in /etc/lilo.conf worked for me:

append="acpi=off"

Alternatively, you can simply append the quoted string manually at boot time:

acpi=off

Hmmm... as I'm using 2.6.1 on a laptop, it's a bummer that I can't use acpi at the moment! This will be resolved in time though.

All the mouse problems in kernels above 2.6 seem to be related to USB-support.
Mouse will work just fine after you remove all the USB-support modules from compiled kernel.
Not too much fun if only mouse around is one w/ USB-connection.
