2.4 and 2.6 Kernels [DEBIAN]

I am using Debain Sarge (3.1 "Testing"), and I installed with the 2.4 kernel instead of using the 2.6 Kernel after my recent drive format. I did not notice a major difference between the 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, besides the fact that I had to configure X a bit differently for my mouse to work correctly.

What are the specific differences between the 2.4 and 2.6 Kernels? Also, is it worth upgrading to the 2.6 kernel? If so, could apt-get be used to install the 2.6 kernel?

TIA,
Willie.

for your first Q, try this:

for your second Q, yes, you can. I would use dselect, personally.

Thank you for your response, very informative. By reading that, I personally think I have no need to upgrade to the 2.6 kernel on THIS system, but when I install debian on my server, I'll consider the 2.6 kernel option.

Thanks,
Willie.
