Hey all!

I am making wedding invitations to my Marriage next august and I would like to do it in DVD format. My experience so far has been less than succesful. Anything Windows Media (Audio or Video) I haven't been able to write to DVD readable from a regular DVD Player.

What I want to do is:

Take some videos with my digital camera, make some computer generated videos (specifically of two boots dancing dances such as the Cha Cha, Tango, Samba, Foxtrot, Rock and Roll, Swing, Waltz, Rumba).

So I am guessing I will need to pieces of software. One to burn the DVD and one to make the video.

I have, in the past, used Nero Vision (I think, it was some else's computer and it was in windows.) and I found it worked pretty well, except that all my audio sounded like Jaba the hut talking.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which software would be best to use?

As well, for the CGA, I need something that is simple to use that will allow me to have boots dancing around, occasionally lines where the boots dance from one line to the other and perhaps some kind of subtitles at the bottom with a bouncing queue showing where we are.

Can anyone suggest software to me please?

I really don't want to just download everyone's demo versions, because my experience has been Demos are usually non-functional, or partial functional. And the Demos for which I have purchased the full versions, I found that a load of the disabled Functionality is the functionality that causes the software to crash.

(Windows, DVD X Player both quickly come to mind.)

I am currently running SuSe 9.3 with 256mb of ram, and a 1.8ghz processor.

What I will tell you first is this...

To burn a VIDEO DVD, there is only one format you can use. mpeg video. This is a huge issue, and like in the early days of AUDIO CDs needing wav files, it will eventually go away and you can use anything. However, at this point, no other file types can be burnt to dvd.

This means, if you shoot the video in DV, or Windows Media, you will then have to have conversion software to convert it to mpeg. You can use any editting software you want, Adobe Premiere is the one of choice for many, I use Pinaccle Studio as it came with my capture card, and I like it. It is easier than premiere to use, and more powerful than most(though premiere does have numerous features over it, it does cost a few hundred dollars more). Then if you have all the codecs installed the softrware can save teh program as a DVD, or as mpeg which you can burn onto DVD.

Does Pinncal or premier run in suse linux?

That is a good question...you mentioned some windows stuff, so I did as well.
You may be able to get wine to run them, but I am sure that won't do the speed nearly as well. If you want pure linux stuff, can do, and sorry for the confusion:

It is supposed to be a fully functional demo, and is DIRECTLY supported by SuSE, which may make it a great option. But you can check the web for details about each peice of software, I am sure you can find something good and easy to use.

I just tried Kino but it doesn't seem to support the AVI files my Canon SD300 camera makes...



Any thoughts?
