[SOLVED]recover a compiling terminal??

i just had the most horrible experience of my entire life... i'd been compiling for about 3 hours and accidentally closed my terminal :(:(:(
OH!!! it was horrible!!! anyway now im just.... ANGRY!!! :(
for the next time if this happen again, is there a way to "recover" the process i was doing before closing the terminal, it feels so awful.

well i guess i'm just gonna have to be more careful next time....

If that is the most horrible experience of your entire life, you have a very good life.

What do you mean by "closed your terminal"? Was it a GUI-based virtual terminal, like konsole or gnome-terminal? In that case, the session is lost.

If you were on SSH, the session is lost too.

The next time, I suggest you use GNU screen or nohup.

Just being more careful should be enough, though.

The good news : compiling usually starts again
with files not compiled in the first session.

Everything will just be run over again with the reply:
" Nothing to do ".

FWIW if I have anything running in a Terminal that I know will take a while and I want to make sure I won't interrupt it I open a new tab in that Terminal window so the tab where the compiling is happening no longer has focus, then I minimize the window, then I put the window on a workspace I'm not using for anything.
