I'm looking for a LAN/intranet messenger to send (small) message to other computers in my home network.
The messenger has to work with Win 98, Win XP and Linux (Slackware 10.0), also I like it to be freeware.
There are several messengers, but they're all like internet messengers where you have to sign up first to make use of it.
I want something like Softros Messenger (Windows, does not work in Wine)
you can configure your linux box's mail system, make it an internal pop server something like pine, or sendmail? Linux is perfect for server applications, you just have to configure it to do it, then create a mail account using your box, and pinging it from time to time. If you want more like chat, google bahamut, it is a irc server, then use mirc or Xchat or chatzilla
