yum update rhel5.1 to rhel6

hello
what is the process of updating rhel5.1 to rhel6

is there anything which need to done before creating yum repositry and simplly running yum update ?

If you don't care about that, you can probably just pop in the RHEL 6 DVD and do an upgrade.

from the very very old 5.1 ( never been updated 5 ) to 6.0
NO
will not work

1) download the 6.0 install dvd
2) do a fresh/clean install of 6
3) BUY A LICENSE !!! - a MUST !
4) copy backed up data from a rhel5 KNOWN GOOD back up to rhel6 ( some data will not move over )

I am currently upgrading numerous vm servers from RHEL5 to RHEL6. Your best bet is to download the RHEL6.1 iso and boot your RHEL5 machine from that and at the install menu screen hit esc and type in linux upgradeany. That should take you through the upgrade process.

If you have a paid subscription to RedHat, contact them. They will tell you it is not supported but they still take a look at it. I have a RH engineer looking at my case right now.
