yum server Configuration on rhel 5


Hello All,

The is my first time configure the yum repository server. I have configure the server with ftp. While installing any package on server I get following error.

server ~]# yum -y install dhcp
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with RHN.
Repository | 951 B 00:00
RHEL-Repository/primary | 856 kB 00:00
RHEL-Repository 2428/2428
ftp://192.163.35.128/pub/Server/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: [Errno ftp error] timed out
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Server. Please verify its path and try again
-server ~]#

@rhel5-server ~]# vi /etc/yum.repos.d/Server.repo
[Server]
name=rhel5-server
baseurl=ftp://192.163.35.128/pub/Server
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0

=====================Location ofPackages==========================
/var/ftp/pub/Server
==================================================================
Kindly suggest on it.

Most likely it is permissions on the Server directory. If it isn't that then if you are running SELinux check the context of that folder.

Are you able to ftp-get anything from the pub/Server using plain ftp commands?

Please activate your paid Redhat account. Else no repositories.


Don't want to pay ? Then do not use Redhat EL.
There are free versions of Redhat EL : CentOS and Scientific Linux.
