Question xinetd & occupied port report

how can i list what are all the occupied ports on my server ?

i am having a problem with xinetd, chkconfig says my xinetd service is running, however, i can't connect to it (connection failed).

i am kind of frustrated with xinetd. 'ps aux' does not list the processes that are running out of xinetd, only xinetd itself. i also can't find a log file for xinetd to see which services started successfully and which did not.

CORRECTION: i tried

netstat -ln -A inet

but that just lists the ports that are open, not necessarily occupied. when i try to connect to my IP/port using telnet, the connection fails. i am certain the problem is within xinetd.
