x hangs at nvidia splash screen in RHEL5

Hi,
I am using nvidia quadro fx 5600 on intel board running rhel5. I have installed the latest nvidia driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run). But, X doesn't seems to come up. X hangs at NVIDIA Splash screen. I can use the system only through the network(ssh). cnt+alt+backspace or cnt+alt+f1 or f2 .. doesn't work. I have to kill X through network, so that i can work on native. The details of the system is below

My kernel version is 2.6.18-53.el5PAE

nvidia card :- NVIDIA quadro fx 4600
driver version :- NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run
RAM=4GB
Processor - Intel quad xeon

Hi,

as explained in other threads, nvidia drivers break mesa software package, possibly this is the reason.
