X forwarding with putty and xming

This is the first time I have setup an xforward to a Windows machine using xming. If I enter a remote command like /usr/bin/firefox in the SSH section of the putty configuration an xforwards firefox will start on windows.

If I simply have x forwarding enable attempt firefox &. I get the display not found error.

Error: cannot open display: localhost:0.0

I have tried to set the display the IP address of my Windows machine and this does not work.

What is missing with my config?

Thanks,

Andy Scott

I follow the directions and get the message that display connect be opened.

Code:
localhost:10.0
Is what I had set in $DISPLAY. I set it to

Code:
localhost:0
and I also have it set the same in putty.

I have always had issues with Xming and Cygwin-X. Sometimes, it worked sometimes it didn't.
Then I download X-Manager, and I am sticking to it for last 4 years. It is very stable and no need to use putty, use its built in tool, XShell.

Startup Xming first, then open up your PuTTy session and it should work, you may want to check the 'X forwarding' option in PuTTy but other than that no config work needed.

try as rhbegin said, this should always work as long as you don't use sudo to change your active remote user. There are ways to make that work as well but I don't have a HowTo at hand right now. Try google (as always )
You might want to enable compression in putty settings as well.

TRY with this

yum install xorg-x11-xauth
yum install xauth
yum install x11forwarding
or
xclock to check the xforwarding
yum install xclock

vi /etc/sshd_conf
x11forwarding yes
Allow Agent forwarding yes

service sshd restart

in putty
there is a x11 tab
there is a option
xforwarding check that box & put the below value
localhost:0.0
or
export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0

then give the ip or hostname in the session & try that xclock command if xclock pops up show the server time it means xforwarding is working
