Write cache errors

I have had a Centos file server with Samba running for over a year. The network is distributed between two buildings with a fiber optic link between them. All has been well until the past couple of weeks.

All the computers in the building that houses the server can access the server with no problems showing up. The difficulty that has started of late is that the computer in the other building has started giving delayed write errors frequently when trying to save files back to the server.

The computer in question is running XP Pro. I can see the share, log on and open files with no problems but when I try to save the file back I get the delayed write error and the data is lost.

I have found several articles that indicate the write cache is of little real use and recommend disabling it. I have done this on the local drive but I am not sure how to disable delayed writes to the Samba shared drives.
