wordpress not starting properly, install.php error

Hey all,

I have recently decided to venture into online blogging and other things, and my friend told me wordpress is a great tool for this. I have set up my mysql database, and apache and php are all working fine, and when i copy my wordpress folder into my /var/www/, and edit the config file for my database, i point my browser to http://127.0.0.1/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php to get it up and running. But i only get the error:
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 7680 bytes) in /var/www/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 302". Some googleing seems to suggest that this may be a problem with a php.ini file, but im assuming this is a windows based solution, and im not sure where/what a linux alternative is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i have a server that is crying out to be used, and its just idle.

Thanks

Ryan

Thank you, i have tried these, right up to 512MB of memory, and after that figured to wasnt going to make a difference. I am starting to think this may be distro specific, kubuntu 9.10. I was unaware that i have any plugins trying to load, maybe apt installed some. Am going away for a couple of days, and wont have access to my laptop, but i will try downloading it direct from the wordpress site, and see if this has any effect.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed though.

Thank you

ryan

if that wasn't a fresh install of wordpress from wordpress' site, I'd certainly suggest grabbing a new one and starting over.

I have just used a fresh install from the wordpress website, and have changed the memory usage to 128M, but i am still getting the same error. i #'d out the lines that seemed to be the cause, but the error just jumped to the line where the next plugin started. Is there a way to turn off these plugins? and do i need them or what do the do?

Thanks

Ryan
