I have an SME7.4 server with qmail.

I got an alert from the server that 133, 433 and 78 mails had gone out in 3 consecutive 5 minute periods.

Have looked at various log files but can't seem to find one that shows outgoing mails.

That amount of outgoing could happen if our server was receiving a heap of spam and throwing back failure messages (I think), but there was no notification of lots of mails in (which does happen at times).

Really don't know how to figure out what has happened but would like to know.

Any detective clues would be much appreciated.

Surely someone who reads this forum knows about mail logs?

Every so often 200+ emails go out in a 10 minute period.

We are not sending them.

I would like some help in sorting it out (I hate spam and don't want to be sending it as I suspect may be the case).

The first place I want to look is the mail logs. The ones I look at don't appear to tell me anything about outgoing mail.

Anyone able to tell me how and where to look?
