Which Linux/Linux distros may the best for building a reliable and secure server

Dear all !
As per my gr8 interest in open source system,I have chosen a project "design and development of a secure and reliable open source HMI/SCADA system." My HMI system have to communicate and cater data of a plant where 100s of processes will be running simultaneously. I am not very sure which Linux distros will best meet my need. I am not interested in SELinux. I want to use PostgreSQL.

I will be more happy if your answer will include related support/support link for suggested Linux/Linux distros to give good startup to this project.

Will it be a good idea to choose centOS ??

In advance, Thank you..

SCADA: "Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition"

HMI: "Human Machine Interface"

The terms "Security" and "Reliability" mean something very, very different for a Linux-based SCADA system for, say, a nuclear generator than they might for a Linux system that runs an e-commerce site, or a home user's desktop ;)

So the first questions are,

"What DO you mean by 'Security'?"

"By 'Reliability'?"

For example, do you need a realtime system (can you afford even a millisecond's latency?)

Do you require a distro that accomodates a "hardened" environment (as a nuclear generator would undoubtedly entail)?

Please be a bit more specific about your actual requirements. Most common distros are pretty equivalent. But the particulars about your specific requirements will help choose one over another.

as extra this link might good for you
there one pdf you can download

FYI there is no so called secure and reliable permanently you need to work on it

Elaborating the question..

I am happy to read your responses. Certainly I missed to be elaborative. I am mainly interested to design and develop a open source HMI system partially oriented for nuclear application to get rid off proprietary based less secure, less stable, and costly HMI/SCADA system. Here security, reliability are necessary and real time response of the system is not very stringent.
Now, I am very sure that I have elaborated the topic to get the best assistance. I am waiting for your responses.

Again , In advance
Thank you

If you want to really rely upon the "secure" and "solid" , I would suggest FreeBSD rather than Linux distros
