What is the best Linux server software for a music download website.Frm a Linux Serv?

I have a music download website. www.discomixdownload.com .The webhost
says the servers are Linux and apache servers.
I would like to know, what is the best software, and server hardware
for a musicdownload website, that is very music intensive, and will run
24/7/ 365 days a year, with a live disco music interface option?

Can I set all of this up from my home. What software, and or hardware
would I need to set this all up from home.Any recomendations please.

Thanking yo now in advance.

HW would depend on how much diskspace needed and how many hits per min/hour/day you realistically expect.
You may want to look at RAID 5 or 6 for the data drives http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID.
Possibly also LVM (v2) for ease of adding more disks.

I'd go for a long term stable distro, eg Centos (free RHEL)
Deployment Guide: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ion/index.html
You get 7 yrs of support/updates: http://www.redhat.com/security/updates/errata/

The disk space to be utilized would be music files,mp3 or wave music files. About 500 mega bytes ,per song. With tracks of 12 songs per
album. With an 8second sampel option, so customers can sample the music
before purchase.
