What is best practice for adding features on a server?

I'm just curious because I run a virtualbox with CentOS on it. I went through the installation and just clicked 'Basic Server', and 'Customize Later'. What would happen if I wanted to add a service that I didn't originally install? Would I put the install disc back in and select the service or is it as simple as using wget? I'm probably thinking too much about this lol
