webserver doesn't reply to external request but it reply's to local request

Hi guys,

I am new in linux,
I installed apache-tomcat on fedora.
I can view all web pages on localhost:8080 but when I try to view them by server's url address from another computer, I don't get respond.
Can it be a firewall problem or something else?

yes, check your iptable port 8080 allowed or not

Might be that the server is not set to listen
on all interfaces.

Try and find a Listen variable in httpd.conf

It should be Listen *:8080

Then restart apache tomcat

On the server:
netstat -antp | grep http

from another computer:
telnet server.ip.addr.ess 8080

If these fail, check your firewall (iptables?)
iptables -L

if no firewall
cat /var/log/httpd/error.log

From the server's URL? When at this "other computer", can you ping the server by its name? IE ping bobserver.domain.com? If not, then you will need to sort out your DNS as well. If you can ping it by name, the next question I'd ask is: is there a router/firewall between these two computers? (other than the firewall on the server itself). If so, has this router been configured to forward :8080 to the server?
