Webmin: where do deleted files go?

Hi all!

I am using Webmin for administration of my server. I deleted a file using the Java based file manager in Other > File Manager from the public Samba share folder but the space has not been freed up! I have not found a .Trash folder and I have not found the file or anything like it using the 'find' command through ssh. Where does Webmin move deleted files to and how can I recover the space?

thanks.

Are you sure the file has been deleted? As far as I'm aware Webmin has no special holding area for deleted files.

To my knowledge, webmin does not have a special storage for deleted files.

My guess is that some process still has the file open in some way. And therefore the space is not freed but the name of the file is gone.
You can run the lsof command to find the process that is using the deleted file and restart/stop it. That should free the space.
