web site home page displays path in browser

I am running Apache 2 (I think) and when I type the URL of my default web site as http://www.example.com what gets displayed in the browser is "http://www.example.com/apache2-default/"
My guess is the web Server is pointing to an undesired path but how can I modify this behavior?
Thanks!
Dov

Uh - maybe set <DocumentRoot> in your httpd.conf?

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html

Also make sure the <Directory> section for the document root *doesn't* have "Indexes" enabled, and make sure it has an "index.html" file (or equivalent file: like "index.htm", "index.php", etc)
