I have a requirement of a program that must run on a linux server, which should create links dynamically to all the files within some folders it contains.I would just like to have a html page which would provide links to the folder names on the server and when each of them is clicked one program should execute which in turn should open a new browser window containing links to all the files in that particular folder on the server. Can anyone suggest what technology to use which would be supported on linux?
Please post a little more detailed of a specification and description.
Have you looked into anything existing to do this?
By "dynamically created" I assume that you want the listing to be created every time the page is viewed, so that it is always up-to-date?
Have you considered the security implications of this?
What is your target audience? If it is for yourself or other sysadmins, a tool like Webmin could do this and a lot more.
Are the directories readable by the user that your web server runs as (usually 'wwwrun' for Apache)?
What web server are you using? PHP? Perl? Python? What versions?
If your web server user can read the directories? If so, this would be an easy PHP script. Give me the full specification and I'll write something up to get you started. If not, you'll have to use a perl or python (or other CGI) script that runs as a specific user, which is dangerous...
