vsftpd server users

Hey, so i got an vsftpd server, every user can login to their own /home/ folder with it, so "john" logs in he can ftp to "/home/john" in that folder, he has 2 folders an download and an upload folder. How do i set this up that the upload folder is only accesible for john, he only can view the folder and upload to it. And the download folder is availeble for everyone. So everyone can download from the download foler, but not upload.

Thx

Easiest way would be to have everyone's download directory linked to the actual download directory, with correct permissions to access and have vsftpd follow symlinks. No one should be able to view their upload directories.

I set up vsftpd and I am able to login to the server, validate username and password, I see the files within the /home/usr/ folder in the server, but then does not allow me to open the files nor lets me add files.

When I try to open the file in IE it just times out. When I do 'Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer' in the Page menu I get the following error message:

Quote:
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder

Details:
220 (vsFTPd 2.0.5)
530 Permission denied.
If I try to ftp my server using Safari it just returs:

Quote:
You don't have permission to open this page
