VMware OpenBSD suitable as gateway?

Hi, I have recently installed VMware on my Windows XP Pro machine, and downloaded the OpenBSD vm file. If I was to only use Windows to boot (i.e. once booted, vmware loads, boots OpenBSD, Windows never used again till shutdown) would the security/server implemenations of the OpenBSD os be affected?
If the VM version takes control of networking over Windows, I would assume it would be as if it was only OpenBSD running.
What would be the recommended course of action? Should I simply buy fresh components, install OpenBSD as the only os, and dedicate it? Or would my XP version running it perform the same?
Naturally I'm new to this, so I want to take the most secure, stable and reliable route as possible.

Thanks in advance

I don't mean to offend you, but are you seriously considering running an OS inside of VMWare as a server rather than just installing it onto the machine? That would be, in about every way I can possibly imagine, a bad idea.

I mean, if this was just a test server in a closed environment you were using to get your bearings in OpenBSD, that would be one thing. But if this is going to be a real server hosting services for clients, then no way.

As I suspected it's not a good idea then lol. No offense taken, I've got to start somewhere.
This is going to be the machine that all the internal clients get their internet connection from, and will house the logs, firewall, etc.
Guess I need to order those CDs...

Thanks for ultrafast reply!
