User ID Issue ?

Have a specific user ID requirement
Am looking for a user ID specifically for the migration testing/migration [userid= migration]
==> it is only required for two servers; server1 & server2
==> the user needs to have read/write access (sftp) to the following directories [ideally, writes files to this directory with '777' access (so other userid's can collect the files)

server1:/export/O2IE/MIGRATION_TOOLS/MIGRATION_FILES
server2:/home/tginstall/MIGRATION_TOOLS/MIGRATION_FILES

Alternatively, we could use one of the existing ID's but it would need its permissions changed to allow it access the above directories and read/write to it... which is messier I think

What do you think; is it reasonable to set up this user ID?

Friends, Could you please give your ideas on the above issue. Please respond as soon as possible with the action you take to remedy this situation.

Regards,
Aparna.

Yes, you can create a user with those requirements. You have all the information there, just try it out and you can see for yourself.

Looks like a good idea, although to be pedantic, you mean userNAME = migration, userID will be a num eg 501.
