You still don't say why you need THAT version of the kernel, or what you're trying to accomplish, but you have two choices: pay for RedHat support, and upgrade using the RedHat network. If you've paid, then call RedHat support, and tell them what you're trying to do, and they may be able to give you options/help you get it done, and still stay within your warranty/supported configuration. The second option is to use CentOS or another OS you don't have to pay for, and install the kernel from source, and take your chances. |
Hi TBOne
Thanks for your reply. 2.6.20 kernel request by Customer software vendor. |
"kernel-2.6.20-1.2320.fc5.i686" is from 2007 : Not an upgrade.
The genuine 2.6.18-274.3.1.el5 for RHEL5 is from about August 2011, and includes goodies from kernel-2.6.2x.x , 2.6.3x.x : New modules for wireless, security updates from all 4 years, etc. etc. . |

If you're paying for support, these are precisely the kinds of things they need to help you with, especially with third-party software. |
