updating firmwares on PowerEdge using a boot CD?
I need to update some firmwares on some remote ESX 3.5 hosts. The service console will not allow me to run the linux based firmware updates and there are no DOS bootdisk versions available. I was hoping I could create some minimal install of linux and save it to an iso image with all the firmware files so I could boot using the Dell Remote Access Card and then run them from command line. Is there a resource for creating such a Emergency boot CD or some such that allows me to add patch files?

I don't know about creating a small linux distro ISO yourself, but you could use a LiveCD distro to boot from CD. If your servers have USB boot it may be easier to create a bootable thumb drive that will get you a huge kernel and your necessary tools. If you want to do that, you can find a boot image and instructions on how to make the stick here [LINK]http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/slackware-12.2/usb-and-pxe-installers/[/LINK] |
