Ubuntu 11.04 based OpenVZ VPS is unable to connect to internet

Hi, I recently bought a VPS, and after a few updates and program installations, the VPS had issues connecting to the internet. I managed to fix it the few times its happened, but as of recently, the VPS completely refused to connect, even with my fixes, of which involved editing the /etc/network/interface file. I have tried everything, including opening a support ticket with the hosting company, of which they were no help, responding to me with a reply saying that they do not support Ubuntu, meanwhile they provide a premade container for it. I can access SSH from a backup console the hosting provider provides in their control panel, but not sftp or anything else.

Please help, this VPS is critical to a growing gaming community, as it provides hosting to a mumble server and a game server as well.

Do you have network-manager installed?

$ ifconfig -a #is your etho or vnet device there?
