trouble in building kernel

I am trying to build kernel-3.4.4 on my server. Build was successful but when I try to boot through this kernel its showing Kernel panic message. I am not getting where the exact problem is.
At present RHEL-5.4 is running on my server with kernel2.6.18-194.3.1.el5PAE.

I am attaching screenshot of boot screen and .config file, please correct me if i m missing something......

What was the root device name when you installed the OS first?
One simple way (I can think of) is to use a live cd and link the old kernel to vmlinuz (I think it should still be there).
Hope this helps.
