Transparent squid proxy server and a user authentication method for it.

I want to know whether a transparent squid proxy server can be setup along with user authentication using another server like OpenLDAP server for a network that uses a mix of GNU/Linux and Microsoft Operating systems, in a manner such that the authentication password is user changeable after an initial setting.
