thought on process for expanding 4Tb+ raid array on linux
Hello all
I'm hoping to get some input on how to expand the storage space on a server I've got. ( it's more of a process question than the actual commands to execute).
While I do understand the ins and out of some basic linux administration, this starts to get into new territory for me...
I've 'inherited' an ubuntu 8.10 server that is used as a file server. Its been working fine.
It has an Adaptec RAID 31205 (12 ports) configured with 7 sata disks in raid 6( 6 + 1 global spare).
Presently the array is almost 4Tb.
In the near term, I will need to expand the array to include two more disks.
The array is currently partitioned using a single, primary GPT partition, formatted with an xfs filesystem. (LVM is not being used)
So, my question is this:
When I add the additional disks, I plan on using arcconf (or the Adaptec StorMan RAID management software) to expand the underlying array. So, once the controller is finished incorporating the new drives into the array, will I then need to expand the partition table prior to expanding the xfs filesystem in order to 'see' the new space?
Any input or thought would be helpful very much appreciated.
